Why do we need a Living Lab?
Policy-makers, funders and business support services can't provide what we need if they don't know what the need is!
The problem is that very little is known about what works for neurodivergent entrepreneurs. We are left to work things out for ourselves, often inventing and re-inventing the wheel.
We need to pull together the little that is known and get some serious work done to find out what we need. It's something we need to do for ourselves because we are the ones who know the challenges from the inside. But we also value academic knowledge, so want to work with academic partners.
That's why we need the NeuDICE Living Lab.
About Living Labs
-
The Living Lab approach
We do scruffy research. Scruffy research is a process that allows us to work at speed and get potential new hacks out and being used by the community without the delays that are built into standard academic research. Feedback from the community is used in real time to tweak hacks and improve understanding of how they work, for whom and why.
-
Living Lab and other people's research
The Living Lab supports academic partners by providing advice and publicising opportunities for members to take part in their research.
Sometimes papers are published with research about supporting ND people - we can then put this research to the test in Lab
-
Who can be part of the Living Lab?
All NeuDICE members can get involved. If you're not a member but want to find out more you're welcome to come to a Lab. Please fill out our referral form which has details of how to register for online and in person labs.
What is a Living Lab, how does it work and how to get involved?
A Living Lab in an opportunity for people to come together - be that in person or online - and share their thoughts. We typically have some prompts to get conversation started such as experiences we are having in our own work, and then invite participants to share similar situations they may have been in and what has or hasn't worked. We make note of what is discussed in the form of 'Scruffy Research'.
Any solutions we find are shared across the Living Lab network for others to try out, and we may also share any situations that we have not collectively found a solution for to see if anyone else has ideas!
Any big problems that we can't solve are taken to cademic partners incase they have read anything that might be worth trying. If we STILL can't solve the challenge, we move to co-designing a research project as a team of NeuDICE community members and academic partners, and hunt down research funding!
Below is info on our in person Labs, and our new Online Lab. If any of this sounds interesting, grab a membership, or come along to one for free as a taster!

The Greenhouse
The Plot has an amazing space called The Greenhouse which is full of computers, 3d Printers, Laser Cutters, Vinyl Cutters and more. We can support you in designing and printing your logo, stickers, and whatever else you may need.

Union Corner
Sometimes participants just need to test out their idea or business pitch. With this space, you can do exactly that. There are plenty of tables and chairs if you need space to spread out information, and we have a huge whiteboard for those that like writing/drawing out their ideas.
Other Labs!
You can also find us at Bangor University and in Swansea - dates for these are usually announced in the Discord which you gain access to once you become a member!
Online Lab is available to book on Eventbrite.
Let us know if you are an academic, or are involved with Marjon University in someway as we also host sessions there periodically!
